Motor Vehicles Act 2019

We all are aware of new traffic rules started from 1st September,2019. With the provisions of the new Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act 2019 came into effect from September 1, 2019, those breaking traffic rules will need to shell out heavier fines and stricter penalties. For example, the punishment for drunk driving has increased from ₹2000 to ₹10,000 and/or imprisonment of up to 6 months to 1 year for first offence. Repeat offenders will need to pay more fine and serve higher jail time. Even driving without insurance can land you in jail for 3 months and a fine of Rs 2,000 for the first offence. The government believes the stricter penalties will act as a stronger deterrent against violation of traffic rules and, in turn, help improve road safety.

IMPORTANT POINTS

  • In addition to these fines some social punishment can also be given to the accused person.Like he can be given a work to serve in hospital for 2 hours,to do cleanliness activities in some orphan/Old-age home, or something like that. This have not been seen since now but it may be implemented to let the punishment remembered by the public.Because he can forget after giving fine but he will never forget this punishment.
  • If any Police-Man is found violating Traffic-rules, he will be fined twice of a common public fine.
